A Myth Related to Sex and Sexuality

Students must write (5-7 page paper or develop a script), that debunks a myth. Students are expected to (1) identify and clearly state the myth; (2) describe it past, present, and future; (3) discuss who has benefitted from the myth: (4) Who has been negatively impacted by the myth; and (5) recommend solutions to debunk the myth. You absolutely must demonstrate what you have learned throughout the course by referring to course readings and scholarship.

In order for students to receive full credit for this 5 – 7 page, 12 Times New Roman font, double spaced final project assignment, students must (1) incorporate academic peer-reviewed scholarship including course textbooks, popular culture sources as citations within the text/presentation; (2) clearly state all media sources and observation dates (if applicable); and (3) show their self-growth and development related directly to human sexuality through the use of concepts and language used in the field. All papers must have a cover page and bibliography with at least ten sources scholarly and popular culture materials, including data sources (if applicable). For this assignment, you must give information related to the emergence of the myth and where it is today? Attempt to explain why, how, when did “it” be come. You want a number of images related to the myth. Be creative and show your research skills – research scholarly articles, the internet, videos/documentaries, etc.

Sample Myth – 1. Elderly people don’t have sex. 2. Islamic women are not sexual. 3. Homosexuals are molesters. 4. All men are cheaters. 5. People are either heterosexuals or homosexuals and there is no in between.

Develop an annotated bibliography on five sources related to your selected research topic. You can use either formatting – ASA, APA or Chicago Manual Style (CMS) and include keywords used to research your topic. Two sources must be academic and three sources should be reflect popular culture sources such as videos/websites, television series/shows, news, radio, satellite, etc. Remember, each source must be properly formatted and include 5 – 8 statements summarizing it. What was the main idea (research questions) addressed? What justification did they use to support the need for the research? What theory and methodological approaches were used? What were the findings? How did the findings relate particularly to your topic/study? What can you use from the study to enhance your research on the topic? For instance, does it have a theoretical, methodological, and/or practical significance?
