This case study is an individual assignment. It is worth 30% of your final mark.

Your tasks
1.
You are required to analyse a designated case (refer to the journal paper, “Does the Capitalization of Intangible Assets Increase the Predictability of Corporate Failure?” (Jones, 2011), Accounting Horizons, Vol. 25 No. 1, pp. 41-70) and answer the following questions:
a)
What are the contemporary financial accounting issues in the case and why?
b)
What are the theories employed by the author and why does the author believe these theories relate to the study?
c)
What are the main variables and other variables controlled by the author in predicting corporate failure in this case?
d)
What are the main findings of this research paper?
2.
Altman’s Z-score is one of the best known models for predicting corporate failure.
a)
Select a firm from the listed companies (refer to ASXListedCompanies via blackboard) and provide a brief introduction of your selected company
b)
Evaluate the likelihood of bankruptcy of your selected firm by using the Altman’s Z-score model. You are required to
