An Ethical Framework

The exercise focused on the use of the ACHE Code of Ethics as a guide to make decisions as an ethical professional. Consistent ethical behavior requires not only knowing ethical codes but also applying those codes to a personal framework to “walk the walk.” Depending on the healthcare manager’s position in the organization and situational circumstances, different aspects of the ACHE Code of Ethics, as well as other codes of ethics, will apply to a greater or lesser degree. Chapter 14 (Morrison, 2016) discusses the concept of moral integrity, which serves as the personal foundation of values and beliefs that guide an individual’s actions and behaviors. Challenges to moral integrity can undermine an individual’s moral base and personal ethical framework. To establish and maintain moral integrity that will support your ethical framework, the following must be addressed (Morrison, 2016, chapter 14): Why do you want a career in healthcare administration? Conduct a personal moral integrity cost/benefits analysis. Define your “moral bottom line.” Engage in directed activities to build and maintain your moral integrity. Identify a moral mentor. Examine your life experiences (successes and failures) and find their moral lessons. Design a prevention plan to avoid moral derailment. Engage in PQI [personal quality improvement]. Have a rich and varied spiritual life. Work to create a climate of moral integrity. With a solid moral base, developing a personal ethical framework is possible. Moreover, the personal ethical framework can guide your ethical behavior in your positions throughout your career. Write a 2-page paper that: -Identifies three ethical principles that are important to you -Describes your personal ethical framework -Indicates at least three behaviors you will engage in that are related to ethical issues in healthcare management. PS. For the one source, you can use this website that describes each of the four ethical principles. It also answers one of the questions required. And don’t worry about needing the textbook.
