Analysis of Environmental Risks

You are required to individually investigate the status of an issue by obtaining and analysing data on its previous status and comparing this data with contemporary data/information.  The primary purpose is to determine what has impacted on the issues decline and how improvements can be measured and monitored. The assignment will also include a strategy to communicate the risk issues to the community.

This is an individual task consisting of a 1,500-word written assessment summarising the identified issues, analysing data and providing comparisons with the current state of the issues along with a stakeholder specific communication strategy outlining to whom it is directed, how it is to be implemented and monitored for effectiveness.

Select an issue that has been in the media within the past 2 years in relation to negative impacts on Australia’s environment.  This could be something to do with air or water quality, waste management, contaminated land or alternatively it could be another issue that is of interest to you – discuss with the lecturer.

Using available data sources, you are to provide in your report:

§ 
An overview of its current “state” – that is, what is the condition of your topic – why is an issue

§ 
How did you determine the “state”?

§ 
Why has it become an environmental issue today (or within the previous 2 years)

§ 
Summarise the media’s reporting of the issue

§ 
Who are relevant stakeholders in regard to the issue, and what would their main concerns be

 

The final part of your report should provide a methodology that you would implement to communicate to the stakeholders the “real” risks associated with your topic and what the community should be doing.  This should strategy should also include; the message(s), how you would communicate and how would you determine the effectiveness of your strategy.
