Ancient Mayan Site or Deity
Description you choose between two possible topics: A Maya site, and a Maya supernatural (deity). a) If you choose a site, you should come up with a general thesis argument about that site’s political history, maybe focusing on why or how it rose to power, and why or how it fell from power. You do have some leeway with regard to what specific aspects of the site’s political history you would like to focus on. Of utmost importance is that you are organizing the paper around a central argument. One caveat is that you cannot choose one of the sites that has its own Chapter in the Martin and Grube Maya Kings and Queens book that we will be using in class after the midterm. b) If you choose to write about a deity, you should have an argument about that supernatural’s importance within Maya society.
