 This semester the class is reading Dealing in Desire: Asian Ascendancy, Western Decline, and the Hidden Currencies of Sex Work by Kimberly Kay Huang (University of Chicago Press, 2015). The book has been highly acclaimed as an important academic contribution to the study of global sex work in terms of methods, theory, and content. You have the freedom to reflect on the book and write about topics that you find interesting. You may find it useful to read a few reviews of the book, and you may use them in your paper as long as you cite them. Bring a paper copy to class and submit the file through Canvas.The paper is due on Tuesday, November 20. This is one week later than the original date on the syllabus. The following criteria will be used to evaluate your paper:1. Content (50%) You will be looking for:an overview/introduction that gives me an idea of what the book is about and what the author’s perspective or orientation to the subject matter is a significant controlling idea, assertion or theme supported with concrete, substantial,and relevant evidence grounded in the text—you should pick one or two issues or topics to emphasize rather than do a chapter by chapter summary—the prompts in the box are ONLY EXAMPLES of what you might choose to write aboutevidence of creative, intellectually sophisticated, original, or critical thinkingconceptual clarity and depth of analysis 2. Development. (15%)paragraphs are focused and coherentlogical transitions reinforce the progress of the analysis introduction engages initial interestpaper has a conclusion (paper doesn’t just “quit”) 3. Style. (10%)sentences are varied and purposefuldiction is precise and economical tone is appropriate for subject and assignment4. Technical.
