ASSIGNMENT 4. SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS IN CONTEXT

Resources to draw on for this assignment include:
• Readings about global governance and Sustainability Development Goals
• Chapters from SUD Reader on Curitiba, N Europe, or Taipei (choose one)
• Any additional research or resources on your chosen city/region
• Discussion boards for Module 4 (feel free to use everyone’s comments for help)

INSTRUCTIONS
This module focuses on the emergence of a relatively new global framework for sustainability: the Sustainable Development Goals. After discussion boards that trace the international policy movement promoting sustainable development over the last three decades, and introducing/examining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), or “Global Goals,” I ask you to choose one of three chapters in the section of your SUD Reader entitled, Sustainable Urban Development Internationally.
The 17 SDGs are seriously ambitious, and fortunately, they seem to have garnered a fair amount of international attention. But do they go beyond good intentions and good press, and if so, what does that need to look like? This paper asks you to think about how the SDGs might be pursued in an actual city or region, what some of the most important opportunities or challenges might be. As with your last assignment, your paper should be about 5-6 pages long. Further:
• Typed
• 1.5 spacing
• TIMES NEW ROMAN
• 1-inch margins.
Your paper SHOULD BE structured as follows (though you may use your own terms)
• Part 1. Introduction of your city/region (very brief)
• Part 2. The hardest, most challenging SDGs
• Part 3. The SDGs that may already be within reach
• Part 4. The most important opportunities and context-relevant SDGs
• Part 5. Conclusions (very brief,
