Campbell’s The Hero with a Thousand Faces will help you out immensely if you can find it. Wikipedia is not an acceptable source. The person then takes off on a series of adventures beyond the ordinary, either to recover what has been lost or to discover some life-giving elixir. It’s usually a cycle, a coming and a returning.” (Joseph Campbell) The superhero movie Black Panther demonstrates Campbells notions of a mythic hero’s journey. From the call to adventure to the belly of the whale. T’challa is the perfect example of what Campbell references. He gets a strong call into a crazy adventure and gets help from multiple sources. He fights two hard battles. He is a strong hero. T’challa, also known as the Black Panther, started out fighting small inner battles in his country, but when his father dies and he becomes king, everything changes. Campbells, “Call to Adventure” is displayed as an old enemy reappears, stealing an old artifact and causing T’challa to need to go after him. After capturing Klaue, the enemy, a larger threat arises. T’challa is called to a wild adventure when his cousin shows up seeking vengeance for what happened to his father. He steals the throne from under him and he has to fight to get it back. To win his battle, the Black Panther had to get help from outside sources, what Joseph Campbell would call “Supernatural Aid”. One source is the suit his sister creates for him. The suit is made out of an element called vibranium and absorbs kinetic energy when something hits it and uses it. It gives T’challa the strength he needs to fight off his cousin.
