Choose a community and identify a problem within that community and how you would solve it if you were commanding officer

Your assignment is to choose a community and identify a problem in that community and discuss how you, if you were the Commanding Officer of the precinct covering that community, would address the problem. Keep in mind that you have many resources at your disposal, including precinct anti crime, OCCB narcotics, Community Affairs, OCCB Public Morals, OCCB Auto Crime, precinct patrol, youth officers, Borough Task Force, Emergency Service, Borough Gang Unit, precinct detective squad, as well as numerous social service and community resources available.

The precinct has numerous houses of worship that are willing to lend a hand in any capacity. Keep in mind the concept of community policing, in partnership with the community you are there to solve problems. The following is some suggested problems that you may address as part of your community outreach. Narcotics sales, all areas of precinct Gang violence, numerous shootings mostly after 2200 hours Truancy Large groups of youths congregating on sidewalks drinking, smoking marihuana, and urinating on the sidewalk. Robberies of students going to and from school Merchants complaining about traffic problems due to double parking Burglary pattern lower end of precinct, during the day Prostitution, upper end of precinct, leading to traffic problems, and robberies. Homeless people sleeping on sidewalk grates, loitering in buildings, and living in the central malls of major roadways. Empty building, being utilized as a crack house, and place where prostitutes service their customers A bar in your precinct has had numerous fights, people shot in front, and is rumored to be serving under age customers. A half way house for sex offenders has just opened in your precinct and the community is extremely upset over it. There has been an increase in shootings in your precinct, and it seems that many people are carrying illegal guns. http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/html/home/home.shtml NYPD web site
