In this paper, you are asked to consider personally (anecdotally) and scientifically one aspect of your identity and/or culture. You should examine what effects research has noted that this identity may have on a person’s life. You should compare and contrast whether or not you have seen the research’s findings in your own life or in the life of others, with whom you share your chosen identity. Chose one of the following: Sex Male Race and Ethnicity Middle Eastern Sexual Orientation Straight Gender Identity Male Religion Islam Nationality (non-American) Saudi Arabian In addition to your research on the topic, you should consider some/all of the following questions:

How are you a part of this group, culture, or identity? What are the stereotypes of this culture or identity? In the U.S. is this group/ID considered to be a privileged group? In what ways is this group privileged or disadvantaged? In what ways have or haven’t you experienced privilege or disadvantage related to this group? In what ways / At what times do you find yourself strongly identifying with this identity? In what ways / At what times do you find yourself not identifying with this identity? In what ways / At what times do you find yourself DISidentifying with this identity? How do your other identities interact with the chosen identity? What (social science) research has been done regarding this culture or identity? How well – or not at all – do the findings of the research match your own experiences (personal and/or observed)?
