Learning Activity 5.5: Employment Law Case Study Introduction and Purpose of Assignment Throughout this course you will be utilizing case studies developed by SHRM to analyze real life HR scenarios. This assignment utilizes the last of those case studies to study a realistic scenario dealing with one area of employment law. Objectives • Evaluate the legal compliance responsibilities of the HR manager. (5.4) Theory and Context One of the primary responsibilities of the HR manager is to understand employment law and implement necessary compliance within the organization. While this responsibility could include the creation of policies and procedures, the HR manager needs to look beyond simply creating policies and offering policy related training. A way to prevent and detect those situations where noncompliance might occur needs to be part of HR’s approach to legal compliance. Resources • Case Study: Hudson College Scenario D: Title IX is located under Course Documents in your e360 course. Instructions 1. Read the fictitious Hudson College Scenario D: Title IX case study located under Course Documents in e360. 2. At the end of the scenario, review the questions designated for undergraduate students. a. Use these questions as the basis of your response paper on the topic of legal compliance and what you would recommend in this case study scenario. 3. To achieve maximum points for content and analysis, the following elements need to be thoroughly addressed: a. Your paper should be 2 pages in length. The body of the paper should be double-spaced. Use 12 point Times New Roman font with a one inch margin. b. Your paper should address all the issues brought up in the case study questions. c. Provide at least two additional sources beyond the case study document. 4. APA formatting is required. Reference the APA formatting documents available in the Course Documents in e360 if needed. 5. Use the Paper Writing Rubric below to ensure you have met all the criteria for this assignment. 6. Submit your paper to your facilitator using the dropbox titled 5.5 Employment Law Case Study by the end of the week.
