Task You are to provide a written report which will be distributed to both the Environment Department and GBRMPA which discusses the environmental best practices which were/are considered in the running of the Green Island Resort. You will need to gather information and data from a variety of valid and reliable sources critically analyse and evaluate the information and data to ensure that it is relevant to the topic. Don’t include irrelevant information or data. integrate the information and data to make justified and responsible decisions, consider alternatives and predictions relevant in past, present and future biological contexts. REPORT FORMAT: ✓Overview Briefly discuss/outline facts about the island: ie location, size, climate, formation the rationale for tourist development on the island clearly identify the meaning of the term “environmental best practice” the need to consider environmental best practices with regard to Green Island an example(s) of projects other than Green Island that have adhered to environmental best practices. These must be referred to. ✓Green Island Environmental impact In this section you must identify all aspects of the operation of the Green Island Resort with respect to Environmental Issues that you have measured against best practices The environmental issues you identify must be relevant to: the construction and running of the Green Island Resort, and managing the current level of daily visitor activity on the island Integrate the information and data obtained to make justified and responsible decisions regarding: the potential impact each aspect may have on the island environment, the consequences of ineffective management of each aspect, best practices which are employed in order to minimise the impact of each aspect; and the effectiveness of these management strategies. Include a summary of these control measures undertaken for each by completing a table identifying the Aspects to Consider, the Control Measures put in place by Green Island Management, and the Effectiveness of these in addressing the issue. “Control Measures” are what the current management is doing to minimise the environmental impact, and the “Effectiveness” is your observation of how successful these measures have been. You should score effectiveness as a rating (eg: 1 to 5). ✓Conclusions This section summarises the effectiveness of best practice management. ✓Recommendations This is an objective table summary of the practices that you (as the consultant) identify as needing review. Clearly discuss recommendations by considering alternatives to the current modes of operation for these particular practices to ensure that best practices are adhered to, or improved on. Justify your recommendations by making predictions, with reference to future biological contexts, on the positive impact of implementing these alternatives and how they will improve the environmental status of Green Island. Also, make predictions relevant to the future environmental impact on Green Island ecosystem if the modes of practice are not reviewed or modified. An example could be: Environmental Issue: Island Litter Recommendation / alternative: Smoking bans extended to whole of Island. Justification: Cigarette butts are not being disposed of appropriately. Removal of butts will eliminate the presence of butts in the environment, and therefore eliminate the risk to wildlife. Cigarette butts are not biodegradable – over time their presence will be an ever-increasing risk to the wildlife on the island (choking hazard); and with the potential also of being washed into the marine ecosystem (with heavy rains), and being ingested by predatory marine species.
