Evidence Based Practice in HealthCare

Evidence Based Practice in HealthCare

This assignment is a continuation of assessment 1 in that you are required to apply the remaining principles of EBP to synthesise evidence that will help in answering the question that you developed in assessment 1. Therefore, you are required to employ the feedback that you obtained on the first assignment to enhance the clarity of the problem that you have chosen, and then shape your answerable question. You have the freedom to change your question and/or even the issue that you selected for assessment 1. However, it is not recommended to make the change if there is no valid reason. Before making the change, it is recommended to seek advice from your tutor or me.
For this assignment, you are required to apply the systematic process involved in the application of EBP to the answer the question that you developed in in assessment 1. Using the elements of the EBP process, discuss how you might access and assess the current evidence for best practice options to ensure safe and effective care is provided for
this patient. You should consider the following key points:
 employ feedback on the first assignment to enhance the clarity of the chosen issue/problem;
 shape (sharpen/ modify) the developed guiding/ clinical (answerable) question;
 locate the best available evidence to answer the question;
 appraisal of the evidence and resources to answer the question;
 Summary of the appraisal for recommendations for best practice relevant to the identified issue/ problem.
Some important points to consider while preparing/ writing this assessment item:
o Make sure you refer to the assignment writing guidelines (to be found on blackboard in the assessments folder).
o You will need an introduction and conclusion to this assignment.
o Headings are required – you might like to use the ‘key points’ above.
o Dot points are not acceptable – this must be written in essay format.
o NB* this is an essay about the selection of evidence for application to practice so you
are NOT required to discuss detailed pathophysiology or clinical care nor steps of
nursing procedures. Rather, your discussion should focus on: the process of finding
evidence to support practice, appraising the evidence found/ providing a summary of
the recommendations from the literature you have appraised to be ‘best’.
o Make sure you use the marking criteria to focus your preparation and discussion.
o Include cover sheet, title and contents pages and end-text reference list.
o Outline your literature search strategy (location of evidence).
o Follow the ECU Referencing Guide (link available on Blackboard).
o Please remember that:
o All cited references should be credible resources including peer
reviewed published journal articles.
o The principle of assessing the adequacy of your references is that the
every piece of information should be supported with appropriate
citation. So, there is no minimum number of references required.
o A wide range of references is required
o Cite contemporary resources (not older than 7 years).
o The word count can be +/- 10%. Therefore, the word limit of your essay is 1500
3
words +/- (150 words). If it is beyond that, penalties will apply.
o In-text references are counted with the word limit.

ideally providing table of search strategy.
Application of critical thinking:
Appraisal of evidence: Student discusses which ‘best practice’ was chosen and why. NB a full appraisal of all evidence
found and read is NOT required.
. Integration to practice: Student succinctly synthesises (pulls together) all the important and relevant information from
