Gang rape

Each student is responsible for a Critical Analysis Project that will be reviewed in sections throughout the course. The final written project will be turned in during the last week of classes, and will be accompanied by a group presentation. Each student will select some aspect of the course material to explore using a “critical analysis” of the issue. Your aim is to explore the wider social context related to sexual crimes that lead to the development of arrest and incarceration practices related to sexual offenders, victim support and service delivery and policy responses to sexual crimes. Each student must turn in a typed paper in indicated length on the dates outlined in the syllabus. Please check Syllabus Schedule for the Due Dates.

Below are the sections of the project

Field Work: interviews and/or observation (2-3 pages) 25 points: The second section of the project, will include students getting first hand knowledge from a variety of sources about the subject. Students can talk to individuals who have experienced sexual victimization (please keep this data confidential and anonymous, and be sure to fully disclose to the individual what you are doing with the information) as well as service providers, members of the criminal justice community (ie law enforcement, prosecutor, probation) or others who would have relevant information regarding the issue. You may also attend community meetings or court hearings related to the issue (SAFETY OF STUDENTS AND OTHERS ARE PARAMOUNT IN THIS SECTION. PLEASE USE GOOD SAFETY PRACTICES WHEN ENGAGING IN DATA COLLECTION FOR THIS SECTION)
