Integrative Assignment 3: Engagement, Contracting and Goal Setting, Intervention, and Evaluation

Integrative Assignment 3: Engagement, Contracting and Goal Setting, Intervention, and Evaluation See below for specifics on this assignment. Your submission should be a minimum of three pages. (For an overview of the integrative assignments, visit Intro to Integrative Assignments in Course Home.) Submit: Submit your assignment as a Word document. Use the following convention to name your file: Last Name First Name_M14_Integrative 3. Grading: This assignment is worth 15 points. Engagement Discuss how you engaged the client, what the challenges were, and the degree to which you were able to develop a belief-bonding with the client or group of clients (Bisman, 2014, 140-143). Also, discuss the process of tuning-in to the client on each of the different levels (Shulman, 2009). PROVIDE A DIALOGUE that gives the specific information about the discussion. You can use a selection of a dialogue from your process recording. This should be word-for-word and gives an indication about how you were able to or tried to develop the belief-bond and tuning-in, respecting the client’s age, culture, communicative style and ability, etc. Introduce each segment of the conversation with a statement which includes session or meeting # and additional clarifying information that will help the reader to comprehend the significance of the dialogue (e.g., the skills that you used, and the purposes of the communication. Use of Bisman (2014) is recommended here.) Single space (and indent) dialogue. Do not include any comments from your field instructor. Do not just import one of your process recordings but be selective about which parts you can use to illustrate your competence in the engagement process. Remember, this section is key in developing the relationship and being able to describe it is critical in assessing your ability to apply the concepts of belief-bonding, tuning-in, and communication skills – critical for developing the contract and planning the intervention. Contracting and Treatment Planning Specifically, describe the contracting and treatment planning phase. Discuss how you are going to address the problem or problems for work. These all need to be consistent with your problem for work identified in Integrative Assignment 2. If there has been a change in the approach and problem-for-work, describe how that happened and why. In particular, comment on the nature of the contract established (verbal, written, implicit, and/or explicit) and the rationale for your choice. You can provide a dialogue to illustrate this. What culturally-relevant information did you use in developing the contract and moving to treatment planning? Goal and Objectives Provide specific detail about the agreed upon goal (1) and objectives (2-5). Goal: Broad general statements of what clients want to accomplish; Objective: Explicit statements of concrete changes desired by the client in their behaviors or situation (Miley, et al., 2017, 278-289). Label the goal and objectives – numbering the objectives. Remember, you cannot solve all of the client’s problems at once. So, partializing the problems and objectives is a critical skill. Evaluate the quality of the goal and your objectives (e.g. Are the objectives measurable? Are they mutually developed with the client?). Strengths and Resources Discuss strengths and resources of the client, which became apparent in the process of problem identification and assessment. Describe how at least one of these strengths or resources could be pivotal in the development of an intervention plan. Interventions Describe what interventions you carried out, or would carry out if you had the ability to do so. Refer to the scholarly literature to justify your choice of interventions. Also, address the degree to which the interventions are culturally relevant to your client. Please note that not all social work interventions involve psychotherapy. Case management, some types of group work, and macro-level interventions are acceptable where relevant to the agency setting. When referencing the literature, do not include direct quotes from the literature, but instead, paraphrase the information in your own words. Here you may take excepts from your literature review. If you do, you must cite yourself if it is word-for-word from your paper. Missteps or Mistakes Were there any missteps or mistakes you made in contracting and goal-setting for intervention? If so, how did you recover? You may omit this section if this is not applicable to this client. Evaluation How will you and the client or client system know the goal or goals are met? What worked and didn’t word? How will you evaluate progress? You may use quantitative measures such as a depression inventory to track progress; you may use self-report or report from collateral contacts such as teacher, partner, or other person you have permission to contact. What have you learned and what would you do differently if you had the chance?.
