LEGAL MEMORANDUM

Description Legal Memorandum Assignment Students are expected to write a legal memorandum. The memo should be 5-7 pages in length, double spaced, using Times New Romans font. The memo should also include a references page (which does not count towards your page requirement). When you draw upon the cases I have provided to you or any other type of authority, you must cite them in your memo. You may use either Chicago, MLA or APA citation method. ( Note: these citations methods are not what is normally used for a legal memo. However, I don’t expect you to learn a legal citation method for this course). The persona that you will adopt for this memo is that of a newly minted attorney working for the Simon & Simon Law Firm. You will write a memorandum to me, the Senior Partner of Simon & Simon Law Firm, explaining the merits of the case and whether it would be successful if brought to trial. To do this, you need to apply the law and the facts. The facts should be a short summary. The law is the basis by which you believe the case has merit or no merit. I have provided sufficient research for you to write the memorandum. However, you are welcome to do additional research. Your textbook can be a great resource. Furthermore, Findlaw is a good site generally. When writing the memo, consult with the Guidelines for Writing a Legal Memo and the memo example.
