O’Conners – A Good Man is Hard to Find

Description, Essay (2000 words): Near the end of Flannery O’Conner’s short story, “A Good Man is Hard to Find”, the grandmother says “Why you’re one of my babies. You’re one of my own children!” What does she mean by this? The grandmother very much longs to return to an old South she sees herself as belonging to. She also is much concerned with what a good man is, and why there are no more of them. How does the Misfit fit into her definition of what a good man is? And how does he, as “one of (her) own children” fit into this model? If we are accept the Misfit as one of her own, how do we understand the Misfit in terms of the South?
