Poetry Essay

Poetry has a lasting impact if it connects us with the history or consciousness of its moment. Regardless whether we find our way into a poem through a historical context, the language also gives us an aesthetic appreciation and we can remember a line from a poem for a long time even if we do not understand every detail of a poem. Write an essay in which you examine both the historical significance and the aesthetic achievement of a poem. How do these two qualities help each other or perhaps even work against each other in the poem? To write your essay you will need to refer to two to three outside sources with your reading of the poem. No bullshit Internet sources allowed; sources must be physical books, articles or other primary sources or those sources accessed through a database or significantly valuable website. MLA style.
