To what extent do the current time targets of antibiotic administration for sepsis, affect morbidity and mortality?
Introduction
A recent survey of UK hospitals by the BBC’s Panorama program (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-41204389), found that as many as 1 in 4 may be failing to administer antibiotics within the times recommended by the current NICE Guidelines (ref).
This analysis seeks to explore the impact to health of administering antibiotics outside current target time recommendations.
Body of essay
Needs to mention NICE guidelines and Sepsis Six. Also needs to briefly reference some aspect of the pathophysiological changes that make sepsis a time critical condition, such as impact on cardiac output/blood pressure/DIC/end organ failure.
