The Importance of Being Earnest.

This are the teacher’s instructions: (I’m decided to choose The Importance of Being Earnest). Your assignment is to write an essays in MLA format of between 800 and 1000 words that makes an argument about one of the plays you’ve read so far. These include Oedipus Rex, Medea, Doctor Faustus, Hamlet, A Doll House, Pygmalion, and The Importance of Being Earnest. Please read sections L1-L3 at the back A Writer’s Reference with Writing about Literature. These pages cover the conventions of literature (how you should refer to authors, characters, use of present tense, etc.) and will guide you as you write. Also read “Writing Criticism about Drama” (pp.1770), “Approaches to Criticism” (pp.1771), and “From Prewriting to Final Draft: A Sample Essay on The Rising of the Moon” (pps.1773-1777). All essays require a strong thesis, so I strongly suggest that you send me yours BEFORE you begin writing your first draft. However, before coming up with a thesis, you will need to do some prewriting (brainstorming, clustering, freewriting, etc.) to come up with some original ideas. Feel free to use your discussion questions to form the basis of your thesis. You may come up with a totally unique thesis, however, if one occurs to you. The last sentence of the introduction should be your thesis. The three or four body paragraphs that follow will each have a topic sentence that is one of the points of your thesis. Be very careful not to simply retell the plot of the story. If you would like my feedback on a draft of your critical essay, you may send it to me as an email attachment up to two days before the due date. I will happily give you my suggestions and feedback to help you make the paper as good as possible. You can also submit your essay to the Online Writing Center for feedback. Attach your essay (saved in Word) to an email addressed to and include your name, ID number, my name, our class name (English 2343), and any questions you’d like answered. The class I’m taking is Introduction to Drama at El Paso Community College and I have the book in case more instructions or information is needed.
