The Missouri Trapper (1825)

The purpose of this assignment is to develop your skills for working with and interpreting primary sources evidence. The film under review for this assignment is The Revenant. Here, you must read the first version of Hugh Glass’s story published in 1825 and watch the movie. Compare, and contrast the historical written version of the story with the modern film. Possible angles and questions: Are there any major factual differences between the film and the written account? Is the portrayal of Hugh Glass accurate? Is the role of Indigenous people accurately portrayed? Do the movie and the story present a similar definition of the frontier? Do you think the movie is a reliable source to understand fur trade society?
