Purpose of this assignment

To develop learners’ skills of independent enquiry and critical analysis by undertaking a sustained research investigation of direct relevance to their higher education programme and professional development. To enable learners to become confident using research techniques and methods. It addresses the elements that make up formal research, including the proposal, a variety of research methodologies, action planning, carrying out the research itself and presenting the findings. To complete the unit satisfactorily, learners must also understand the theory that underpins formal research.

Scenario

You have started in the role of a government researcher on a Public Services Task Force to help assess the current situation in the UK in relation to our Public Services to help formulate a report on today’s Public Services.

You have been given the opportunity to conduct a formal research project into an appropriate area of your choice (but with approval by your tutor) in relation to the Public Services.  You must be able to show your rationale for the project and how you compiled it, along with evidence validating your findings. You may use previous unit research to support your project findings (from a specific unit agreed with your tutor).

 

Research various services/organisations identify their working practices, use real cases to highlight changes and effects, include an appendix to show the text and web resources that you researched.
