For this assignment, each student should interview someone who is different from the student by race and one other dimension of intersectionality. The student will also conduct a literature review related to the interviewee. Once the interview and literature review are completed, write 10 to 12 pages, double spaced paper with 1-inch margins and 12-point font. In order to protect confidentiality, use a pseudonym for your interviewee. Title page, abstract, and references are not included in the required page count. Cite the literature you draw from using APA style (use a minimum of 10 citations).

The purpose of this assignment is to (1) gain understanding of an individual’s experience; (2) compare this to the literature; and (3) explore ways of engaging this person through evidence-based practices.

Interview – For this paper you are asked to interview someone of a different race and one other dimension of intersectionality: ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability and ability, class, immigration status, and religion. Ask the questions from the topic area that corresponds to your interviewee’s group. Before you begin your interview, remember to inform your interviewee that their participation is completely voluntary, that they can refuse to answer any or all questions, and their identity will be kept confidential. Be sure to omit any identifying information from your paper (use a pseudonym, not initials). You should participate together in a social activity where your interviewee’s group is in the majority (dinner, club, movie, cultural event, etc.) before engaging in the interview. Describe the social event at the start of your paper.

Requirements:

Section I: A narrative version of the interview. This should NOT read like a transcript, but rather should be an account or description of the interviewee’s story. You should cite the interview as a “personal communication” (see APA style guide for instructions). You should also include observations and reflections from the social activity.
Section II: A literature review based on the interviewee’s member group(s). Minimum 10 references.
Section III: A comparison of literature findings with the interviewee’s experience. Develop tentative conclusions regarding how social workers can best assist persons from your respondent’s group based on a critical analysis of the interview, class materials, and your own thinking/experience. You should look for literature on best practices with this population (such as intervention strategies, practice models, community engagement, policy implications).Continue using citations.
APA format: This includes a title page, running head, page numbers, abstract, and reference page.
References: A minimum of 10 references is required. All references must be scholarly. Websites are allowed, so long as they meet the definition of scholarly (e.g. government websites, a well-respected foundation, etc.).
Excellent grammar and punctuation is expected. Please utilize the resources available to you (e.g. SmartThinking, CAU writing lab, Grammarly).
Your paper should flow logically. Outline your paper so you can consider the order in which you want to present your ideas.
Use APA style headings: consult the 6th edition of the APA manual for how to use APA style headings.
