Instructions: ARGUMENTATIVE PAPER

Write an argumentative essay in response to the question below. In developing your argument, you must substantially engage with ONLY THREE of the course readings from ONLY PART II OF THE COURSE (October 17 – November 7th).

DO NOT USE COURSE READINGS FROM BEFORE OCTOBER 17 OR FROM AFTER
NOVEMBER 7th. FAILURE TO MEET THIS REQUIRMENT WILL RESULT IN A GRADE
OF “0” FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT
Question:
Feminist movements have been criticized for making assumptions about “women” that generalize from the experiences of a small group of privileged feminists. What are the consequences of such generalizations for feminist political practice? Discuss how TWO of the following forms of feminism have expanded our understanding of feminism: 1. women of colour feminism; 2. Indigenous feminism; and/or 3. trans-feminism.
Additional Guidelines:
Do not summarize the readings in detail

The course material must be critically engaged

Your critical engagement should identify and focus on a central debate or issue raised in

and across the week’s readings

This debate or theme should be identified in your introduction

Your introduction should contain a thesis statement that outlines your central
claim/argument

The body of the paper should compare/analyze/explain/assess how the different authors

grapple with a problem or issue raised in the readings
Since the paper is so short, you will need to make each word count. Be ruthless about syntax and diction, and try to be as clear and precise as possible.
You should not use any sources other than the readings. You will be more likely to write an excellent review if you choose a topic that sparks your interest. “Excellence” includes attention to content, structure, organization, punctuation, spelling and grammar. Please see “Criteria of Evaluation” Sheet on D2L under Assignments for more information.
Length: 5-6 pages double spaced (1800 – 2000 words) in Times New Roman font with one-inch margins.
Plagiarism and Citations: All citations to course readings should use the APA in-text citation method and the assignment should include a bibliography in APA format.
For citation advice, see: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/
Late Penalty: Papers received after the due date will be subject to a penalty of 5% for each 24 hour period they are late.
ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS:

When answering the question there are two parts:

# 1.

What’s the problem with overgeneralizing for feminist political practice. (look at Sisterhood- Belle Hook’s article)
What are problems with radical feminism?

#2.
How have the two groups of feminism expanded what feminism means?
How do they broaden our knowledge of feminist politics?
Intersectionality, theories, “new type of feminism”

1/3 OF ESSAY:
If we want to overcome these problems, what do these new feminisms do for us? Why are they important?

Critique mainstream feminism.
Balance what you’re talking about evenly
All paragraphs should engage with course readings. THIS IS CRUCIAL!
Create an argument that links the articles together
Only use the three readings
