Description Investigate if and how your district addresses professional learning communities. How does your district encourage and maintain a collaborative environment? A professional learning community is “any imaginable combination of individuals with an interest in education—a grade-level teaching team, a school committee, a high school department, an entire school district, a state department of education, a national professional organization, and so on that work together to accomplish a goal (Ascd).” working in a very good school district that works really hard to collaborate and create a well rounded Professional Learning Community. We have very good communication as well have monthly staff meetings, weekly PLCs, zones of regulation, and professional days. We communicate well through email and texting to make sure we are all on the same page and we share new ideas that work in a classroom and with kids. Our district wants the best for our staff and students. We also have walking buddies in which we take 5 minutes of our day to walk with a staff member and learn about them and become a closer knit “family.” We also have monthly lunch events and sometimes team building events which are great and very helpful. The staff is very friendly and the participation outcome is overall great. Our communication is very great for the most part as we keep in touch through email, text, and each other. It is a work in progress but for the most part my school district does a great job with professional learning and maintaining a collaborative environment. Resource: Ascd. (n.d.).
