Discuss the role of architecture in developing sustainable future
Sustainable development meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to achieve their own needs’ (United Nations General Assembly, 1987, p. 43). In most countries buildings over their lifetime account for more than forty percent of energy consumption (incorporating raw material production, construction, operation, maintenance and decommissioning). Architecture can make a major contribution to a more sustainable future for our planet as it can help protect the environment and users well-being.
