The news has been full of issues on the border children. Immigration is one issue that is complicated. We are not going to focus on politics or immigration in this assignment – we are going to have you focus just on the human rights issues of the children and youth. Focus on the children, not the adults, not the politicians. Look at what the treaties say children need. This includes physical health, mental healthy, decision making, staying with families, etc. (This is why you need to look at ALL the treaty articles in both the CRC and UDHR).

In this paper, you are to look at the following news articles on border children and then craft a 5 + page paper on whether you think their rights were violated. Make sure to reference the material you are using!!! Base your paper on the treaty articles and on what you learned in the textbook about the sociology of children and their development.

A sample of articles is below, and know that you are welcome to use others, as new ones come out daily and they are coming from different perspectives. Try to keep focused on child rights and wellbeing issues.

Do border children have rights? Should they? On what do you base your opinion?

If you feel they have rights, what rights? Be as specific as possible.

Justify your answer with relating current events to the treaties.

Thanks!!!
