We have talked about social media as a transformative technology. Working with and against the constraints of social media platforms, fiction writers are using innovative strategies to bring stories to life. This assignment asks you to write a paper on these innovative strategies. In a 4-page thesis-driven paper, analyze how characterization, language, structure, and theme in either Aziah King’s “A Wild Night in Florida” or Jennifer Egan’s “Black Box” reflect Twitter’s key features: character limit constraint, non-standard linguistic features, and value for the instant or “what is happening now?” Using specific examples from the text, show how the writer adapts storytelling to Twitter. In other words, how is the story of your choice fundamentally a twitter story? What aspects of the story shows that it is designed for Twitter?
