Listening Reflection 6

Different pieces of music follow a certain rhythm for them to be beautiful in order to produce a given melody either appealing or not to the audience. This week’s videos have different rhythms, pace, melody and tone that they bring out regarding the different instruments used to play the video.

Listening to the first video, by Arnold Schoenberg, the music leaves me thinking. There are different knots, the intervals between chords is as well confusing and it sounds a very difficult piece of music. Honestly, I found it hard to understand the video, the distance between two chords is not uniform as well as the harmony. The piece is a disjunct melody with many leaps. The texture is a polyphony with so many knots. The second video, by Schoenberg sounds beautiful with the smooth melody playing. Indeed, the tonal spice in the music takes the day. One can get it clearly that Schoenberg is using a piano and the music is so clear with no surrounding voices included in it. The pitch transitions in the video are so orderly and the music is in a classical form. The third video Stravinsky is a great one. Nothing is hard like playing the violin in a slow motion while in a group and the members manages to do it in unison. The violinists are keen enough to play the piece increasing the pitch, as well as from a low to a high volume. The other instrumentalists also do it perfectly. The video is the best with different transition for example, from slow to fast speed, high to low sound, and one instrument to multiple ones. The last video is well done. With different songs being done as instrumentals and the instrumentalists being keen on the pitch, speed and other factors. It is a summary of the week’s videos with different instruments and different composers.

Conclusively, the music played in the videos are enough for one to learn about the different characteristics of music more so instrumentals. The videos are clear and educative for a music class and entertainment.
