The circulation of cell phones in the world has highly increased due to the high production of the gadgets. These cell phones improve and enrich the lives of people since they enhance faster communication from one point to another. The technology of cell phones has reduced the rate of travelling of the consumers hence saving time. However, several shortcomings have been recognized from the implementation of the cell phones. The cell phones have various negative impacts on the consumers that affect them in their day to day lives. Research has shown that the use of the cell phones also known as mobile phones have various effects on our lives. The effects can be health problems, social problems, and also can have a negative effect on the education. In the essay, various negative impacts that the mobile phones have on the lives of individuals will be discussed.

The mobile phones cause the consumer irritation, ambiguity, and anxiety which can have a negative impact on their health conditions. Irritation comes in when the consumers expect and want to be available every time someone wants to communicate to them (Moisio, 2003). One person wants to be always available on one side and the other one still wants the same thing on the other side. When the two conditions clash, then there will be irritation that is caused in one of them or both of them. For example in a meeting or a place where silence is necessary and people are required to switch off their phones. Everybody else does so but at the middle of the meeting a mobile phone rings and it is owned by one of the people in the meeting. This causes so much irritation to the other members attending the meeting since it’s usually an interruption (Moisio, 2003).

Anxiety is another thing that is caused by the wide- spread use of these cell phones. Consumers are faced with a lot of tiring, continuous and uncomfortable situation and need in order to reach someone through the cell phones or also to be reached. Sometimes the consumer is very much in need of reaching another consumer but the network to connect is very poor at the moment. The consumer become so anxious of when the network would be okay, and it may cause the consumer some unexpected heart diseases (Moisio, 2003).The problem of struggling to keep the battery always charged also causes anxiety to the consumer. This is when the consumer starts asking him or herself questions of how long the battery would stay on before it dies. The consumer also ought to think of what would happen if the battery ran down and they don’t have the charger with them. According to Moisio (2003), the worries about the conditions of the mobile phones, and the dangers that may get the mobile phones in their daily consumption tend to have consequences to the consumer.

There is the anxiety that comes when someone leaves the mobile phone behind. The anxiety appears when the consumer thinks that someone could be calling the line but he or she is not there to pick the call. After the consumer is close to the phone, no one calls. Occasionally, the consumer becomes so nervous with the fear of being left out of contacts and being abandoned by friends in the social life. A person also becomes anxious when another colleague promises to call at a particular time and he or she does not. The person might have forgotten or something gone wrong somewhere leaving the one expecting the call very anxious and always checking on the mobile phone (Moisio, 2003). Anxiety also arises when someone special is called and doesn’t pick the call or he or she is offline. For example in the case of a wife calling the husband and the husband does not pick up the call.

Consumers of the mobile phones, sometimes they get involved in using them that they become addicted. According to Hawkins (2014), mobile phones are addictive and there are five side effects that can be caused by the addiction. The first side effect is that the fingers cramp together and sores develops on the muscles of the fingers due to the continuous scrolling, writing messages, and also playing games on the gadgets. The fingers also become numb in rings and bend the elbow for long periods. The second side effect is where the neck bends due to staring at the phone for long. The staring at the mobile phone also causes the back muscles to get hurt and start aching. Eye strain is the third side effect that is caused by mobile phones addiction. Dizziness, blurred vision and eyes that are dry are other side effects that go hand in hand with the eyestrain. It occurs as a result of the consumer struggling on daily basis to read the tiny text messages and tweets on their mobile phones (Hawkins, 2014).

Addiction of mobile phones causes the consumer a fourth side effect, which occurs as a form of a phobia. A time comes when the consumer starts having the fear of being without a mobile phone. It becomes a problem to the consumer even when the mobile phone gets lost. The phobia causes anxiety or negative physical effects since one cannot use a mobile phone. The consumer keeps checking if the mobile phone is still there from time to time (Hawkins, 2014).The fifth and the final side effect is that the consumers acquire a certain syndrome. They are always expecting that their phones will vibrate in their pockets. These consumers are usually very dependent on text messages and updates from the social media sites (Aaron, 2014).

The use of mobile phones can also harm the consumer physically. According to Burrell (2010), a German study has linked the use of mobile phones to the cause and effect of the cancer of the eye. The radiation from the mobile phones also leads to the formation of cataracts inside the eye. Burning eyes, aching of the eye from behind and a deterioration of the eyesight are all related to the radiations that the mobile phones emit (Burrell, 2010).On the issue of physical impacts, research has shown that most of the mental case that occur are due to stress. The stress is usually caused by the use of mobile phones. The consumers stay for many sleepless nights trying to solve the issues that stress them through the phones and instead they pile up more stress. This can play a very big role in their mental conditions (Thomee et al, 2011).

Mobile phones have caused a lot of problems in the society. Mobile phones have encouraged people in the society to cheat on their loved ones. The main causes of break-ups in relationships and divorce in marriages has been proved to be these mobile phones (Roden, 2013).Cell phones provide more privacy than the computers hence people think that they can do anything with the privacy and go without being noticed. Cell phones are in fact destroying the communication between people instead of making it better. The lack of face to face interaction is what encourages dishonesty between friends and cheating among couples. These ruins the lives of the people in the society (Roden, 2013).People are even losing their lives in accidents because the drivers of the vehicles drive as they stare at their mobile phone drawing all the attention from what they are supposed to do.

Cell phones have also gone ahead to impact a negative impact on education. Currently, a large proportion of those that own mobile phones are under age (below 18 years). These under age consumers are students attending various school. Rules restricting the students from carrying the mobile phones in classes or even to school have been laid down. The reason being, the students concentrate much on sending text messages to each other rather than concentrate on their studies. The performance of many students has been affected beyond unexpected margins because of this behavior.

Cheating in schools during exams has also increased tremendously as a result of the knowledge of using the mobile phones. Students carry the mobile phones in the exam rooms and text each other as the exam continues (Miners, 2009). To the students, it is a way of helping each other but according to the examination rules it is usually an exam irregularity. Another form of cheating using the mobile phones is when the student looks for information from the internet. There are websites in the internet that provide various educational materials and they are very readily accessed by the students. The students also save information in their mobile phones and look at it during the examination.

In conclusion, the technological development that brought forth cell phones was meant to improve the lives of the people. On the contrary, we have seen many negative impacts on the human life that have put the lives of people in great danger. The mobile phones cause different forms of harm to the human body, mind and the relationships that keep them going in life.
