Should humanity abandon space for terrestrial problems?

Space exploration has been one of the most ambitious plans which human beings have pursued vehemently. Various individuals inspired the audacious plans to explore space in space ships, which include the famous Apollo 11 lunar landing in 1969 as well the first flights led by Alan Shepard and Yuri Gagarin (William & Turnock, 2011). Despite the various terrestrial problems that human beings face, they must stick to their space exploration efforts due to its importance in technology inventions, and future benefits such as the use of resources from the solar system.

One of the reasons why a human being should not abandon their quest for space exploration despite their terrestrial problems is because space exploration has led to significant benefits for human beings. Over the years, space exploration has opened the door for the invention and advancement of various technologies among human beings (NASA, 2013). Some of the most inventions aided by space exploration include fitness heart rate monitors, solar energy, and water purification systems. The inventions mentioned have significantly improved the livelihood of human beings. Future space explorations will no doubt contribute to various devices and systems, which will elevate the lives of human beings.

Another reason why human beings should not abandon space exploration is due to the current state of human civilization. The current human civilization is characterized by a rapid and ever increased demand for material resources and energy. According to xxx, there is evidence that the limits for mineral resources, as well as non-renewable sources, are fast approaching. The current resources will not sustain the human population. As a result, space exploration provides an opportunity for human beings to solve their diminishing levels of material resources and energy resources. The solar system has a huge number of untapped resources. It is only a matter of time before space exploration provides evidence on how to extract the resources.

One of the most cited problems by opponents of space exploration is that the activities of space exploration lead to the use of a high number of terrestrial resources. However, this argument can be countered by the fact that space exploration provides an opportunity for human beings to acquire and utilize extraterrestrial resources. According to Crawford (2016), studies indicate that future space activities will provide extraterrestrial resources such as indigenous water resources from Mars and the moon, which can be used as a source for both hydrogen and oxygen as well as drinking. The use of space resources will ultimately reduce the burden and costs of lifting resources from the earth and help scientists to carry out research projects with ease.

Conclusion

Human beings have for years made significant attempts to explore and study the space. Space exploration has provided numerous benefits, which include technological advancements. Future space exploration promises to limit resources excavated from the earth while also helping the earth to acquire new sources of energy. Therefore, it is crucial to keep up with the quest for space exploration. Therefore, human beings need to pursue space exploration as it is the future of humanity.
