The Ryan Air Case

The Ryan Air Case

Describe and critically analyse how the current ‘management via accounting’ (as per Chandler, 1977) approach enable Ryanair operations managers to ensure that the personnel and fuel load carried on each flight is as economic, efficient and effective as possible, and make recommendations for improvements in moving forward you think is appropriate.

Consider in your answer how you would manage any flight crew concerns that the ‘margin of safety’ may be too low and how to ensure the flight crew staff turn-over is kept low.

In this assignment, you are asked:

– to describe key aspects of ‘management via accounting’ by initially drawing on Chandler The Visible Hand (1977):

– to apply these key aspects to a real case where the requirement is to provide a reflective and critically informed evaluation on the strengths and weaknesses in the ways in which Ryanair currently employs ‘management via accounting’, and

– to make recommendations to RyanAir on ways in which they could build on strengths and improve weaknesses in their management via accounting practices.

To obtain high marks in this coursework, you need to fulfil both the descriptive and the reflective (you can fabricate) and critical analysis requirements of the question.
