The two years that followed after the civil war were very important after they passed the 13th amendment which brought slavery to end and the 14th amendment which established a new framework for America citizenship and the freedom given to the 7000 freedmen.

When the civil war ended some southern states began actively passing laws that restricted the rights of former slaves after the civil war.the southern states refused to ratify the 14th amendment and that forced the congress to place the whole region under military rule. Freedmen were allowed to vote and hold political office, sell properties and sue whites.the tennesse opposed the fourteenth amendment because it denied former confederates the rights to participate in government.in the mephis race riots thirty four blacks were killed and three white radicals over hundred people were injured.

Radical republican believed that lincoln’s plan for reconstruction was not harsh enough because the south was guilty of starting the war and deserved to be punished.the radical republicans used this clause to implement a military occupation of the south inorder to reconstruct it.nathan Bedford forrest founded the most famous symbol of supremacist violence.

The legislation which president Johnson sighed into law in the next day, outlawed literacy tests and provided for the appointment of federal examiners.during and after the aerican civil war, a member of rhe rebuplican party committed to emancipatation of the slaves and later to the equal treatment and enfranchisement of the freed blacks.
